Recently, we came across an old post on Reddit, which really resonated with us here at You Girl Boy. The writer said:

At my job, I have to be outed as straight. I’m a tomboy. I have been since I can remember. I’m 34 now and happily married (for 11 years). It’s strange that everyone is so fixated on sexuality and its stereotypes, there’s rarely any room in the discussion for Tomboys. I can understand why people might assume I’m gay, given my personality and personal style. However, my experience is having had crushes on boys yet wanting to be tough. To be the hero. I never felt like I was the wrong gender; I just wanted to wear jeans instead of dresses and play football instead of cheerlead. Oddly enough, I feel connected to the GLBTA community. My lesbian friends make me feel less weird about wearing men’s jeans! Anyway, there’s no real point to this post other than, I guess, Tomboys are people too. 😉

And even though the post is 7 years old, it’s still hella relevant today because tomboys still come in all shapes, sizes and preferences – der! And of course, whether you are attracted to the same sex, the opposite sex, are gender fluid or gender neutral, WE SEE YOU. And we are here to celebrate and honour you for being YOU!

With all the crud that’s going on in our world right now, there’s never been a better time to remind ourselves that we are all humans. We are all one. And to be brutally honest, we’re going to need to show each other a lot of compassion, respect and kindness in order for us all to get through this weird-arse, scary time!

So what’s your tomboy tale? We’d love to hear…
